Science: Classification of Living Things Packet. Exercise Tuesday on Hierarchy names of the Linnaen Classification System. Complete pages 4 - 14; Daily quiz on Animal Kingdom and the five Phylums
Social Studies: Maya, Aztec and Inca Civilizations: Section 3: Aztecs: Soldiers of Blood; Section 4: Tenochtitlan - City of Wonder; Read sections; class discussion; note taking. mini quizzes to reinforce information retention
Language Arts: Subject - Complete and Simple; Predicates - Complete and Simple. This section will involve a plethora of worksheets. Unfortunately, without multiple exposure to this idea, success in correctly identifying subjects and verbs does not come easy. Book reports have been assigned. Due date for book report is October 17th!!!!! Please guide your child to get started early. Also, encourage 20-30 minutes of reading time at home.
Computer: The students will be working on Lakes of the World project and continue developing keyboarding skills

Curriculum update for week of September 17
Virtue of the Month: Respect and Responsibility
MATH: Lesson 10 - Finding Missing Addends; 11 - "Some and Some More" Stories; 12 - Reading and Drawing Number Lines, Part 1/Tally Marks; 13 - Multiplying to Perform Repeated Addition/Adding and Subtracting Dollar and Cents; 14 - Missing Numbers in Subtraction; Pre-Exercise 1A Monday; Exercise 1B Wednesday.
Religion: Unit 1 - Session 2: God Saves Us. Through exploration and reflection on God's saving power, students will understand how and why God saves us. Exercise on Session 2 Thursday.
English: Continue review of parts of speech: Nouns and verbs. Identifying prepositional phrases: Combination f worksheets and examples from the textbook.
Social Studies: Lakes of Eurasia: Lake Aral - read and take notes. Discussion surrounding the adverse affect Human's have on God's creation: Lake Aral's destruction and renewal. Review all World Lakes for Exercise on Friday.
Science: Begin Classification of Living Things; handouts for students; class demonstrations. Begin memorization of Classification hierarchy. (KINGDOM, PHYLUM, CLASS, ORDER,FAMILY GENUS, SPECIES)
Literature: Continue Comprehension handouts with students. Assign Book Report due date of October 17.
Computers: Continue Internet safety with Mrs. Kent. Begin keyboarding
PE: Begins this Wednesday. Our PE days will be WEDNESDAYS and FRIDAY.

What is in store for the kids this week
Virtue of the month: Respect and Responsibility
Religion: Unit 1 God's Creation Session 2: God Saved Us. We will have an assessment for Session 1 on Tuesday! I will send home a study guide. We will use art and reflections to guide us through this session.
Math: Lesson 5: Naming Numbers Through Hundreds/Dollars and Cents; 6 - Adding One Digit Numbers/Practicing the Addition Algorithm; 7 - Place Value and Writing Numbers Through Hundred Thousand; 8 - Subtraction Facts/Fact Families; 9 - Practicing the Subtraction Algorithm.
Social Studies: Lakes of the World: Lakes of South America; Lakes of North America; Lakes of Eurasia. Reading, discussion, note taking, and review questions will be used to reinforce information
Language Arts: We will be reviewing parts of speech this week. Begin Identifying subjects and predicates in sentences. Memorizing Preposition list on page 239 of text book. Exercise on prepositions.
Literature: Students are to pick a favorite book of theirs to read for this month. I will send home a rubric for the book report. Also, encourage the children to read for 20 minutes at home each night.
Spelling/Vocabulary: We are waiting on delivery of books. Once we receive the books we will begin to cover units. We will be able to complete book by year end.
Science: Classification of living things. We will begin this unit this week.
Computers: Keyboarding and general rules of the class.
PE: We will have a PE period this week on Wednesday. Net week we will have PE on Monday and Wednesday.
Please review your parent envelope tonight!

I am so very excited about this year! I look forward to meeting and getting to know all of my new students and families. Below is the curriculum update for this week. Remember, it is a wish list. The beginning of the year is always fun. Nothing goes as planned!

Religion:. We have new Religion Series books: Finding God. I plan on reviewing this new format with the students.
Literature: Assigned book report for month: Children are to choose a grade
appropriate book that they want to read.
Book report is due October 1st –
NO EXCEPTIONS!
English/Writing: This week we will be reviewing
parts of speech and sentence types.
This week we will
review various parts of the the student handbook. We wil cover Student Learning Expectations as well as the
school rules. I want to make sure
everyone is aware of the changes we have instituted this year.
Computers: Begin next week
