Virtue of the Month: Self-Discipline and Self-control
Religion: Session 4 God Directs Our Lives: This is a carry over from last week. We will complete Session 4 and have our exercise on Friday
Math: Lesson 39 - Polygons; 40 - Picturing Fractions, Part 2; 41 - Half of an Odd Number/Fractions on a number line; 42 - Comparing Fractions by Drawing Pictures. Exercise Form 4B on Tuesday
Science: Classification Packet pages 13 - 18. Students should start to memorize the various characteristics of Mammals, reptiles, birds, etc. for exercise on Friday.
Social Studies: Section 1 New Dawn - take notes in class; Section 2 From Artisan to Artist; Section 3: The Cradle of the Renaissance. Read, discuss, take notes, and review.
English: Subjects and Predicates: Complete and Simple pages 185 - 190. Practice Exercise 3-8; Practice creating introductory paragraphs through journals and short essay.
Vocabulary/Spelling: We will not have a Vocabulary Unit this week due to shorten time in classroom.
Computers: Students will continue their states project. This will be a 3-4 week project (estimated).
As always, please check your child's white envelop for important announcements and information. Parent-Teacher conference times are in your envelop. Please review and inform office if you cannot make the scheduled time. We will do our best to meet your needs.

Math: Lesson 34 - Rounding Numbers Using a Number Line; 35 - Dividing with Zeros in the Quotient; 36 - "Larger-Smaller-Difference" Stories; 37 - Using Fraction Manipulatives, Part 1; 38 - Drawing Segments to Close in an Area; Exercise 4A on Wednesday Special note: If you student is weak in their multiplication facts, please have them review them nightly. They are now a big part of our math lessons. i have been reminding them since the first week of school. Please support me at home.

Social Studies: New Unit: The Renaissance: Section 1 - A New Dawn; Section 2 - From Artisan to Artist; Section 3 - The Cradle of the Renaissance. We will read in class, take notes and discuss various topics, and Learning Masters. Further, we will employ a PBS Documentary "de Medici's, Godfathers of the Renaissance" as a means to strengthen lessons in class.
Science: Classification Packet: Animal Kingdom: Vertebrates v. Invertebrates. Pages 10 - 14
Vocabulary: Unit 2: Workbook, sentences and review. Pre-Exercise on Wednesday; Exercise on Friday. Spelling Exercise on Friday.
Language: Continue work on Subjects and Predicates. Lesson 10a, 10b, and 10c.
Computers: Continue work on State's PowerPoint projects.
Literature: Begin work on Poetry Poster!!! Woohoo!!!! This project (poster only)will be due November 9th. I will send home a rubric for this project. The outline is as follows: Students will create a picture board that reflects their understanding of what the poem is saying to them. The poster should include a copy of the poem and a collage of pictures. The students will have to stand up and defend their poster. (I will ask them to explain how the pictures they have chosen reflect their feelings about the poem.) Finally, they will be required to memorize the poem. They will recite the Poem on November 2nd.
Please encourage your fellow class parents to log onto this blog and become a follower. It is the sole method of communication about what is happening in class. If they are wondering what we are doing in 5th grade, here is their source. SPREAD THE WORD!

Virtue of the Month: Self-discipline
ITBS: The mornings this week will be spent completing the ITBS battery of exercises. Please make sure your child gets a good nights sleep and a solid breakfast in the morning. Yes, it really does help. Also, there will be a dramatic drop in homework assignments. Math will probably be the only thing they will bring home to do.
Math: Lesson 25 - Listing the Factors of Whole Numbers; 26 - Practicing the Division Algorithm; 27 - Solving Problems about Divisions of Time; 28 - Reading and Drawing Number Lines, Part 2; 29 - Reading and Writing Time From a Clock.
Religion: Unit 1 Session 4: God Directs Our Lives!
Social Studies: We will wrap up the Maya, Aztec, and Inca Civilizations. We will review the seven sections and complete some learning masters. The exercise will be early next week. I am hoping Tuesday at the latest. Your child will know before hand when we will be taking the exercise.
English: Complete and Simple Subjects; Complete and Simple Predicates. Continue work on identifying prepositional phrases.
Science: Continue working on Classification of Living Things packet.
FINALLY! I am working to transition my grades onto Jupiter. My goal is tho have all grades posted by Tuesday, October 9. Please have patience with me, I have a lot to migrate from EasyGrade Pro onto Jupiter Grades. You will receive log in procedures when I have input all grades. Thank you for your patience.
